Cowlick Bravado – Reid Jamieson – 2001 – CDbaby | iTunes | Spotify
Reid’s self produced solo debut is nine tasty tracks of folk pop goodness. Reid recorded and played all the instruments on this cd, just for you. The ‘hugging peanuts’ image came from a woodcut stamp that Reid found laying around a yardsale somewhere, it nicely sums up his need to make you feel better.
‘Much like Sarah Harmer… Jamieson’s album is also littered with references to an unknown ‘you’… poetic writing teamed with solid musicianship. – Umbrellamusic.com

LYRICS
Good Feelings Grow
Tell me of your weakness
Your aggravated secrets
Hidden for no reason
And divided by the seasons
And when they change on you
Your pride follows suit
And the ignorance holds no reward
Allow your fear to slide
Into the pocket of might
Your extraneous sight can allow and hold proud
Right before the cold comes
In between your ear drums
Rubber eyes are useless
They bounce away the whole mess
And if you wanna know
How good feelings grow
I can try to describe what I've learned
You need an open mind
Something that's been hard to find
For so long but I know that it's there
Hiding where?
Tell me of your weakness
Your aggravated secrets
Hidden for no reason
And divided by the seasons
On The Way
When you were just a baby
Did you know your life was maybe
Decided without much concern
And if selfish ways were used
You've emerged so unabused
Still your perspective is askew
So if you've got the heart
And you're willing to depart
With sadness come along
We've never been less wrong
That love is on the way
I hope you're still a child
Beneath this adult pile
of worries, concerns and regrets
Some patterns never die
If you feed them constant lies
Your problems don't end with your weight
So if you've got the heart
And you're willing to depart
With sadness come along
We've never been less wrong
That love is on the way
I swear on my mother's grave
I've tried so hard to behave
As I thought she might want me to be
So if you've got the heart
And you're willing to depart
With sadness come along
We've never been less wrong
That love is on the way
Latitude
Holding the hand of an idea
Looking inside, make sure it's real
Up against what seems immobile
But it's moving when you don't watch
Are you the kind ready to act on
A moment disguised as a reaction
Put your will before the mirror
Ask of it to clear the air
For your newly found
decision to be crave less
Eloquent and resonant
are the adjectives at hand
Floating by on a soft word
or a sweet idea, some unknown idea
Here is the weight no one would hope for
Can it dissolve like a mundane chore?
Calling out the instigator, identify the perpetrator
Of all these awful feelings in the way
Looking at it bottled up
You may find your progress cut
Short on long inspirations
In your attitude, yes it's latitude
Holding the hand of a decision
Before it's firm it's an illusion
Calling out the will to find it
There is nothing there to find
Once you know you found
What's been there all along
Nothing to lose
Is it clear what the challenge is
Take apart and rebuild the quiz
That you ask of yourself each day
In so many ways
And when you took it from me
That wisdom you've improved on
I learned of much left to see
In moments we carefully choose
With nothing to lose
Yes it's hard on your head sometimes
To decipher these language crimes
But our skills grow in leaps and bounds
Besides losing ground
And when you took it from me
The soft words that have helped turn
Our breathing from shallow to deep
All good air that comes passing through
With nothing to lose
And when you gave it to me
The passion in a sweet song
The soundtrack is permanently
Embedded, do you hear the blues?
With nothing to lose
Buried In The Sand
Tell me how you have covered your island
With unattractive and insecure sand
Maybe I'll build an opposite land mass
That you can inhabit with me and my friends
I'd use the wealth of your inner beauty
To challenge the weather
A pointless affair
Stand on your own but lean on me sometimes
You know I'll be solid
To shoulder it all
These hands tire well before the mind
Stretching knowledge through fragments of time
Making room for improving beyond
Making the stronger one
Making your pain all gone
How do you change a build up of feelings?
Acting like weights pulling you down below
The water is warm surrounding the island
It tastes like the summer and smells like the fall
Of your clouds that have covered too long
Your sunshine an explosion of song
Sang till death makes it's way up the sand
I've got you by the hand
You've got me by the hand
Swallow me with your heart.
Balance
Is there someone out there waiting?
For a love that's hesitating
Does it seem that time crawls by without concern?
For the welfare of your beating
Heart that's on the brink of pleading
With itself to stop the endless self abuse
Can you understand the truth?
Can you feel it breaking through?
All I want for you is a balance to arrive
All you need to take control of
Is the fear most aren't aware of
Let compassion grow
And guide you through the dark
That surrounds us all sometimes
But we need the dark for light
All I want for you is a balance to arrive
Juggling Demons
When you're tired of these
Arguementive, awkward days
Lean in, hear the secret
That I know we will create
When you're anger builds up
Past the point of no return
Turn it into knowledge
Steer away from crash and burn
And we're through
Juggling demons back and forth
Between our heads and hearts
Expand, ignore the faults
We held as facts
Change your way of thinking
Elevate accepted lies
Spread the feeling gently
Tell the fantasies goodbye
And we're through
Juggling demons back and forth
Between our heads and hearts
Expand, ignore the faults
We held as facts
And we're through
Juggling demons back and forth
Between our heads and hearts
Expand, ignore the faults
We held as facts
And together we'll fight
See them through
These simpler ways
Worldly, Golden Hands
I suppose you're letting me get lonely
I surmise I'm falling in a deep hole
And once again I don't know where the ground is
Is it above?
Cause below isn't ending
Please throw out your hand
There's a tone that seldomly gets brought out
It can hide I know because it's inside
And even now with patience in its top form
Words are thrown away like we don't own them
Please throw out your bad words
Please throw out your sad words
Let me hear you speak out
Make the words all clear
