A tribute to that legendary lady Yoko Ono on her 90th birthday. Yoko achieves 90 this Feb 18, 2023 and Canada’s Reid Jamieson is keen to celebrate with two covers, ‘Remember Love’ written by Yoko herself and ‘Oh Yoko’ written by her late mate John Winston Ono Lennon . Thank you for your service, Ms Ono, your commitment to creativity and LOVE has changed our world.
The B-side of 1969’s ‘Give Peace a Chance’ is Yoko’s beautifully delicate acoustic song ‘Remember Love‘, and likely the first proper song that she had ever written and recorded. Reimagined here on Reid Jamieson’s Trouble Sleeping (Lullabies for all ages) we are reminded of what she has been saying for decades.
OH YOKO
OH YOKO
“Oh Yoko!” is a 1971 song written by her late mate John Lennon. It was first released on his album Imagine, and was later included in the greatest hits compilation Working Class Hero: The Definitive Lennon.
Written by John Lennon / performed, mixed and recorded by Reid Jamieson / produced by Carolyn Mill. From the Reid’s John Lennon tribute album JOHN 20:20.
Celebrating 30 years since Tori Amos released Little Earthquakes, Canada’s eclectic choir boy takes her seasonal gem ‘Winter’ and makes it his own, on nylon string guitar with an epic build of intense emotion and enchanted vocals. This remaster marks the 10 year anniversary from his fan fave winter collection ‘Songs for a Winter’s Night‘. A reminder that there is magic in us all, if only we could believe. Reid continues to amplify womens voices, watch for his upcoming tribute album to Buffy Sainte-Marie.
Amos explained this song concerning thoughts about her father and failed aspirations to Rolling Stone: Said Amos: “The ‘White Horses’ are your dreams. That doesn’t really say it. Opportunities? Roads that you thought you would go down and haven’t experienced, and all these potential experiences are gone now. Those doors are closed. And imagination – the belief that your imagination can take you to places. The magical world having gone from your world, which to me there’s nothing more painful than that – when you can’t access your magical world. There was a moment when I thought I was too young to not be able to access that anymore. But I’ve noticed over the years that a lot of teenagers feel locked out of that world. They don’t know how to get back anymore because in trying to become an adult you feel like you have to circumcise the magical world.”
SUMMER BOY written by Buffy Sainte-Marie (from her 1967 release Fire & Fleet & Candlelight), is the first single from Reid Jamieson’s upcoming tribute to Buffy Sainte-Marie. Originally a love song when Buffy sang it, here we find Reid looking back at his younger self with all the longing of summers end. Huge vocals with dark instrumentation fit for a Bond theme, and a fine example of BSM’s incredible catalog.
Naturally, Reid cannot sing her many potent indigenous protest songs. He can, however, sing her praises as a singer songwriter. Many are familiar with the activist and icon, but if you are anything like us, you may not be as familiar with the diverse body of music this living legend has released over the last half century. Such creativity with song structures and adventurous melodies, Reid says he has never felt so inspired to create and be intentional with his art. Lending his voice to amplify hers in hopes of reaching new audiences on both sides, this may very well be the first tribute album of its kind.

SUMMER BOY – LYRICS
Face of joy, covering all your fears Summer boy give me your tears Hands of gold playing a prayer Heart and soul, praying a song
Clowns can smile, and gardeners grow their flowers Summer boy, give me your hours Give me your glance like the wing of a dove Summer boy, give me your love
Suns can set and willows can weep their tears Summer boy, give me your years Give me your hand, before autumn starts Summer boy give me your heart

written by Billy Talmadge. For our dear Texan peeps. You are the best of Texas.
When we dance together my world’s in disguise It’s a fairyland tale that come true And when you look at me with those stars in your eyes I could waltz across Texas with you
Waltz across Texas with you in my arms Waltz across Texas with youLike a storybook ending, I’m lost in your charms And I could waltz across Texas with you
My heartaches and troubles are just up and gone The moment that you come in view And with your hand in mine dear I could dance on and onAnd I could waltz across Texas with you
Waltz across Texas with you in my arms Waltz across Texas with youLike a storybook ending, I’m lost in your charms And I could waltz across Texas with you
A special request by commission to celebrate the life and love of Deborah Lynn Gardiner (Feb 17, 1953 – Apr 11, 2021), with love from her husband Jim and son John. Written by Richard Marx and Linda Thompson. Made popular by Josh Groban. Performed and recorded by Reid Jamieson. Produced by Carolyn Mill. Artwork by CVM. You’re still an inspiration Deb, thank you. Please share with someone you know who has lost a loved one. They live on in our hearts.
Who can say for certain
Maybe you're still here
I feel you all around me
Your memories so clear
Deep in the stillness
I can hear you speak
You're still an inspiration
Can it be
That you are my
Forever love
And you are watching over me
From up above.
Fly me up to where you are
Beyond the distant star
I wish upon tonight
To see you smile
If only for a while
To know you're there
A breath away's not far to where you are.
Are you gently sleeping
Here inside my dream?
And isn't faith believing
All power can't be seen
As my heart holds you
Just one beat away
I cherish all you gave me
Everyday
Cause you are my
Forever love
Watching me
From up above
And I believe
That angels breathe
And that love will live on
And never leave
Fly me up to where you are
Beyond the distant star
I wish upon tonight
To see you smile
If only for a while
To know you're there
A breath away's not far to where you are.
I know you're there
A breath away's not far to where you are

Fellow Canadian Reid Jamieson pays tribute to living legend Joni Mitchell with this tender but joyous acoustic take on her track All I Want, the opening track from the album Blue on its 50th anniversary. Recorded for Joni’s 75th.

HEY BIG KID – An Ode To Stuart McLean, Vinyl CaféThought y’all might want to join the rest of Canada in celebrating the return of Vinyl Café this summer! The late great Stuart Mclean will back on CBC Radio this summer for a 10-week season, starting June 30th. Each episode will air Wednesday evenings at 11pm and Sunday mornings at 11am. We celebrate Stuart and all that he meant to Canada with this ode to its cherished storyteller. Stuart also took great pride in was introducing the rest of Canada to independent musicians. From the Good Lovelies to Danny Michel, many found a new, more appreciative audience. Vancouver’s Reid Jamieson played a somewhat unique role as part of the official Vinyl Café Orchestra (with badge to prove it) and was brought on to feature in special episodes such as The Train Show (recorded onboard VIA Rail’s The Canadian) and ‘Stuart as a Boy’ (with tales of his growing up in Montreal). Always a challenging gig, as not only did Stuart continue to write and edit the stories up to the last minute, he also changed his mind about which songs should accompany the stories…keeping Reido very much on his toes! Reid also created the original artwork for the posthumous CD box set ‘Unreleased Stories’…which reminds us, they have a new book coming out this fall ‘The Vinyl Café Celebrates’. And couldn’t we all use something to celebrate this year? 😊
It’s just a wee tiny song (under 2 minutes!), so please consider giving it a wee spin…
I remember the first time I heard you On the radio I started driving slow Through tears of laughter and sympathy You made the scenery seem more real to me How could I have known? That one day we would share this road Makin words and music together Bring it to the people through all kinds of weather
Hey big kid, caught you playin’ with your words again You let them spill across this country And you made yourself a million friends Hey big kid, all your travels will they never end? So if you’re lookin’ for a jukebox you can call your own All ya have to do is tune me in! And hey big kid, you just made yourself another friend Hey big kid, we caught you playin’ with your words again Hey big kid, I hope this story never ever ends…

Stuart will be missed by all that were touched by his kindness, charisma and curiosity.
Sending big love to the whole Vinyl Café and CBC family.
