If you haven’t been yet – what are you waiting for?! Only YOU can keep live music alive. Join us! We aim to create community at this legendary pub now located in Chinatown – just a 10 minute walk from the Main St/Chinatown Skytrain. Date night done right! or a place to meet new peeps, and with special guests dropping in – anything can happen in the Scéal Eile! Join us for a pint and/or a bite, and get lost in the song…

Do you want to be on our Vancouver Locals list to be in the loop about Songbird Sessions with Reid Jamieson & CVM? We want you to be on the list, emails are infrequent and private!

NOTE: We are in the UK/Ireland for the month of October to celebrate Reido’s 50th, back Nov 9, 2023. In the meantime our fabulous co-host Sinead X Sanders will be subbing, so come on out and help her keep it warm for us!

ABOUT special guest host SINEAD X SANDERS  (Oct 5-12-19-26 + Nov 2)

Raised on jukebox-era rock & roll, blues, R&B, country, jazz, & punk rock, Sinéad X Sanders cut her teeth playing local pubs around Vancouver and has a gift for keeping folks entertained. Her voice has been compared with everything from Wanda Jackson to Billie Holiday, Janis Joplin to Elvis Presley — but she doesn’t quite sound like any one of them, or possibly, anyone else you’ve ever heard. ABOUT Reido + CVM

“Gorgeous, sun-struck acoustic soul”- Globe & Mail

Vancouver’s Reid Jamieson & CVM are a vocal powerhouse making music that matters and moves us. With an incredible voice, spirited guitar playing, and a magical way with melodies, Reid is that rare songbird whose originals are every bit as compelling as his interpretations. In years past, Reid was a regular on CBC’s Vinyl Café, has recorded with Cowboy Junkies, and performed with Mary Margaret O’Hara, members of Blue RodeoBe Good Tanyas and more. A classic introvert/extrovert combo, Reid shines alongside his saucy wife and long-time songwriting partner Carolyn Victoria Mill, their unique harmonies and swapping of lead vocals make for an eclectic, entertaining and sometimes heartbreaking variety show. Together they won the John Lennon Songwriting Contest and wrote their way in to the Vancouver Folk Festival by winning 1st place in their Pickin’ a Folk Star contest. Tireless promoters of voting, equality, and love, they thrive on creating intimacy, causing tears and laughter in equal measures. Their latest all original album ‘Me Daza’ was recorded in Ireland with producer Kieran Kennedy (Maria Doyle Kennedy) which features the posthumous vocals of Fergus O’Farrell (Interference, Once). There is nothing traditional about the record – or this dynamic duo. Following up on tributes to Leonard Cohen, John Lennon, 50/60s era gold, and what could be mistaken for a simple holiday record, they are currently working on the first ever tribute to indigenous icon Buffy Sainte-Marie, plus an all original folk opera about Pigeons(!) and the causes of housing insecurity, set to premiere at the Vancouver Fringe Fest in September. You won’t want to miss what they do next…

FAQ

TIMING Who doesn’t love an early show?! The doors downstairs are open from 6pm to 8pm. You are welcome to start earlier in the pub, or on the lovely new patio, and then head down at 6. After 8pm you can bring your drinks and convo upstairs. This helps with managing staff schedules and allowing the band to pack up in a timely fashion.

MUSIC Live music will happen inside 6pm-8pm. At least an hours worth. Depending on when folks show up, maybe one long set in the middle, maybe 2 shorter ones with a wee break. We want to make sure folks have a chance to connect. If yer feeling chatty please sit in the back and do so in a whisper. The speakers are staggered so you will still hear fine, and not distract the listening crowd we hope to encourage.

COVER $10 all goes to the artists. Can pay cash at the door downstairs, or have it added to your bar bill (+gst). Just let your server know and they will give you a wee slip to bring to the band/door person.

FOOD & DRINK Yes you can order both downstairs. If we are short staffed, or you started in the pub, you can always grab something upstairs and bring it down. The fish and chips are magically dairy and gluten-free and delicious!

ALL AGES? Technically yes, tho this is an Irish pub so the language may get a little salty.

ACCESSIBLE? There be some concrete stairs to go down. If you need better access, please give a call or send a note and we can take you round the back laneway and unlock the service entrance. Couple of spacious all-gender washrooms available too.

SPECIAL GUESTS We will randomly have special musical guests join us from time to time.  If you are a musician would like to come and sing a tune or three, or just would like to be on the guests list (we get it!) please do send a note! songbirdsessions @ reidjamieson.com
